Thirsting for God as
the Only One Who Can Quench My Dryness
Psalm 63 – Paraphrased from
the Amplified Bible.
1-2 A Psalm of David.
O GOD, You are my God, earnestly will I seek
You this morning; my inner self is
parched with thirst for You, even my flesh
longs and is faint for You, in a dry and weary land where no water is. The world I live in is a dry and weary land where
there is only 'eye candy' to drink … like there is water, water every where, but
nothing that really quenches the deep thirst of my heart and soul. 2 So I have looked upon You in Your Word and through Your creation to
see Your power and Your glory.
3-6 Because Your lovingkindness is better than life itself, my lips
shall praise You. 4 So will I bless You while I live; I will lift up my hands
in Your name. 5 My whole being shall be satisfied as with marrow and fatness;
and my mouth shall praise You with joyful lips 6 when I remember You upon my
bed and meditate on You in the night watches.
7-11 For You have been my help while living in the midst of this parched and
weary land, and when
I hide in the shadow of Your wings I am able to rejoice and experience the joy of knowing You. 8 It is only when my whole being is following hard after You and clinging closely to You that I
find deep inner peace. When I hide myself in You Your right
hand upholds me and I find rest deep within. 9 But those (especially
the devil and his angels) who seek and demand my life to
ruin and destroy it shall themselves be destroyed and go into the lower parts
of the earth (yes their destiny is the underworld of the dead). 10 They shall be given over to the
power of the sword; they shall be a prey for foxes and jackals. 11 But the king
(David and his descendants) shall rejoice in God; everyone who swears by Him (that is, who
binds himself by God’s authority, acknowledging His supremacy, and devoting
himself to His glory and service alone; every such one) shall glory, for the
mouths of those who speak lies shall be stopped.
