HOW’S YOUR HEART?

“GOD, investigate my life; get all the facts firsthand. I'm an open book to You; even from a distance, You know what I'm thinking. You know when I leave and when I get back; I'm never out of Your sight. You know everything I'm going to say before I start the first sentence. I look behind me and You're there, then up ahead and You're there, too— Your reassuring presence, coming and going. This is too much, too wonderful— I can't take it all in!” Psalm 139:1-6 The Message

Referring to an Old Testament prophecy from Isaiah, Jesus pointed out an ineffective human tendency to deal with the difficulties of life by hardening ourselves down deep inside. “For the hearts of this people have grown dull. Their ears are hard of hearing, and their eyes they have closed, lest they should see with their eyes and hear with their ears, lest they should understand with their hearts and turn, so that I should heal them” (Matthew 13:15 NASB).

The Savior wanted to heal the people of His day, but their inner dullness and deadness prevented it. In Psalm 119:70 the writer penned what often happens deep with us: Our “hearts” become “callous and unfeeling...”

Over 2,000 years after the birth of the Messiah have things really changed? Many people of our day have experienced so much disappointment, the death of so many dreams, and such a gigantic chasm between what they hoped would be and what actually is … that they unwittingly turn to lifestyles, practices, and habits to medicate the incredible pain and disappointment they carry because of their yearning for abundant life has never blossomed into being.

Biblically a healthy heart is soft, sensitive, perceptive , receptive, understanding, clean and feeling.

"I’ll pour pure water over you and scrub you clean. I’ll give you a new heart, put a new spirit in you. I’ll remove the stone heart from your body and replace it with a heart that’s God-willed, not self-willed. I’ll put my Spirit in you and make it possible for you to do what I tell you and live by my commands." Ezekiel 36: 25-27 The Message
