2016 Listening to God Assignment

"A New Year's resolution is a tradition, most common in the western hemisphere but also found in the eastern hemisphere, in which a person makes a promise to do an act of self-improvement."
Wikipedia

The only problem with this tradition is that the outcome is based on human willpower and resolve. In fact, most New Year's resolutions never come into being. "The spirit is willing but the flesh is weak."

What if the God who created you wanted to make a promise to you as we move into 2016? God's promise would be based on His power and ability to do "exceedingly abundantly above all that we could even ask or think."

A New Year Listening to God Assignment
“I will listen with expectancy to what God the Lord will say, for He will speak peace to His people, to His saints (those who are in right standing with Him)—but let them not turn again to self-confident folly” (Psalm 85:8 amp).
In the next two weeks, schedule an hour time alone to meet with God. At the beginning of your time with Jesus, confess any known sin that might be blocking your ability to hear from Him. Afterwards, pray through the Listening to God Guidelines (click on highlighted text to left to access the guidelines). Then ask God a question like this:
Father God, is there something You have on Your heart for me ... a promise or word of some kind ... that You want to accomplish in me and/or through me in 2016?
Usually, a thought or thoughts will come into your mind. They may be things like a verse of Scripture, a picture, a phrase, a memory of someone or something, an emotion, ... the possibilities are many. Either as the thoughts are coming or immediately after, make sure you write these God impressions down so you don't lose them.

If you sense God's leading to do so, send an email to L2G.Forum@gmail.com to share what took place during your time alone with God, questions you may have, etc. May God meet you in a very special way and make 2016 your deepest year yet!

  1. Do this on December 31st each year with Teala Melonuk (someone you know!). This year, we brought along seven people to join in the fun, including one high school student who had never done this before. My word for the year was: STRONG. :)
